HUGGS Fall Benefit Concert!

Our Fall Benefit Concert, featuring Tea Petrovic, was held at The Cultch on November 24, 2011 and was a sold-out success!

Tea’s performance was introduced by Dave Heel, long-time friend and supporter of HUGGS, and Board Director Janet Zlotnik. The audience loved Tea’s voice, piano playing, and her back-up singers and band. Great music, fun concert.

HUGGS Graduate becomes Mentor to current HUGGS students!

HUGGS Graduate becomes Mentor to current HUGGS students! Six years ago an unexpected gift to HUGGS changed the life of a young woman.. Seventeen year old Sujatha was working in a hostel for room and board because her family couldn’t afford to keep her, let alone provide for further education. At that time, HUGGS founder Lisa Heel was in India, so was able to give Sujatha the amazing news, "Someone in Canada is sending money so that you can continue your studies to become a Math teacher!"

HUGGS has followed her educational journey over these six years. Last month Sujatha received her B. Ed. Degree and is now lecturing in a Women’s College in Vizag. For some time HUGGS has felt the need for someone who would be a mentor, particularly for the girl students. Who better than a young woman, herself a HUGGS graduate? We are delighted to announce that as of November 2010 Sujatha is the HUGGS Canada Field Worker in India.
