"About three and a half years after
I first moved to Toronto in '98, I decided
it was time to return home to Vancouver
for some refreshment and family time.
The first time I attended a small group
affiliated with the North Shore Alliance
Church, the focus was around this vibrant
young woman who had recently returned
from travels in India where she had been
involved in helping underprivileged children.
Her stories, brought to life by the rolls
of photos she had taken while abroad,
were inspiring; and her passion and compassion
for God's people were glaringly evident.
This was my first encounter with Lisa
Heel, one of the most interesting people
I have ever encountered. She shared with
me her hopes and dreams for working with
children, although she was uncertain as
to how she would do so. She continued
to pray about her heart's desire, which
has led to her present involvement with
HUGGS Canada.
