HUGGS CANADA sponsors young people who show
the potential to continue their studies but
whose families do not have the necessary resources.
HUGGS is committed to providing the educational
and support needs of our students.
Working closely with our Indian representative
HUGGS is responsible for student selection,
and for ensuring appropriate educational experiences.

HUGGS students
generally come from poor rural backgrounds
where the parents themselves may be illiterate.
These students have managed to complete
grade 10 which is the extent of free village
education. What they have in common is
financial need and a keen desire to study
beyond high school to achieve their goal
of contributing to family and community.

Among the 142 student nurses at the traditional
candlelight capping ceremony was Viveka,
HUGGS first student. With her hair gracefully
groomed off her shoulders, and dressed
in a plain white uniform with white shoes
and stockings, Viveka faced the audience
as she received her cap.
