These students all come from the urban slums of a large city in India. The road from these slums to a college education is long and hard: students have to learn so much more than the academic subjects themselves in order to succeed. The good news is that they are succeeding – thanks to their determination and your help. Here are some of the highlights of 2009:

• Our first graduate, Viveka, is now nursing in the ICU department of a local hospital
• Our second student, Sujatha, is nearing graduation, and will soon be a math teacher
• 4 new students started high school in June
• 4 students graduated from high school and have started college
• We are supporting 18 students in all, on their road to an education and a future full of possibilities

Our strong circle of support is steadily expanding, even in these difficult economic times. All that is being accomplished in the lives of HUGGS students has been made possible because of donors like yourselves. You allow our staff in India and our Canadian volunteers to carry out their work. You have given hope to our students. In February 2010 we will be selecting new students to join the HUGGS family.
