Our students


Our Fall Benefit Concert, featuring Tea Petrovic, was held at The Cultch and was a sold-out success! Tea’s performance was introduced by Dave Heel, long-time friend and supporter of HUGGS, and Board Director Janet Zlotnik. The audience loved Tea’s voice, piano playing, and her back-up singers and band. Great music, fun concert.

The new HUGGS STUDY CENTRE

The new HUGGS Study Centre (HSC)  in Vizag is now open 6 days a week for our students, and students really appreciate it. The HSC provides them with a safe and quiet place to study and learn—a place to get their questions answered, from tutors who really care about their progress.

Under the direction of our full-time HUGGS Coordinator, Madhu Latha, with help from Senior Tutor Suresh Kumar (a HUGGS graduate), the HSC provides a fun and accessible learning environment, and a place where the HUGGS community can grow and flourish.

[Caitlin accompanied her aunt, Board Chair Helen Kline, to Vizag in October to visit HUGGS students and see the new HUGGS Study Centre. She is a marvelous photographer and took many great photos of our HUGGS world there, and made an instant connection with the students. Here is what she wrote about her experience.]

It was wonderful to meet Madhulatha and the students and to be welcomed into their homes. HUGGS gave me an incredible opportunity to see a more real side of India than I could ever have hoped to see. I was thoroughly impressed with Madhulatha and the way she interacted with the students. They respect her as a teacher and as an older sister. She's a great role model.

HUGGS students are hardworking, bright kids with huge hearts and so much to give back to their families and communities. It's great to hear them talk about how not only their education, but also their HUGGS family have changed their lives. The study center provides a calm learning environment, an outlet, a safe space, and a strong community feel. It's just what they need!

The HUGGS family is in my thoughts. I wish all of you all the best as you continue to grow.
