Greetings from Vizag!
Helen Kline, Board Chair, is in India for two weeks on a multi purpose visit for HUGGS. She has spent most of her time with the current students, including sixteen year old Dhanalaxshmi and her mother who are in this picture. Visiting the families in their homes is important, as well as assessing the educational institutions where they study.
Helen is also there for the inauguration of the HUGGS Study Centre - a single room where the students can come to study in quiet, with good light and clean, cool air - such a contrast to the majority of their home-study situations. The second picture shows Madhu Latha, our HUGGS Co-ordinator in the HSC with students. You will soon be hearing more of Madhu Latha and the Study Centre - a dream come true for HUGGS!

Welcome to HUGGS
The mission of HUGGS Canada, a registered Canadian charity, is to provide underprivileged students in India with the opportunity to further their education, enabling them to contribute more effectively to their families and communities. Since 2003, HUGGS has supported 26 students. Our latest 2 graduates are now working in nursing and education.
When I visit our students, I am consistently impressed at how hard these students work, balancing family responsibilities with the demands of school, in an environment totally new to them -- because they know that completing their education is the key to helping them and their families out of poverty. And I see the hope on their faces as they come to believe that HUGGS really is giving them a chance to change their lives—which, in a nutshell, is what makes the work we do worthwhile!
